ALPENA, Mich. (AP) - Soil and rock supporting a sidewalk along a park in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula has washed away, closing the park and delaying plans for improvements.
WHSB-FM reports (https://bit.ly/2uEblxx ) repairs to the walkway at North Riverfront Park in Alpena are needed before the park reopens. A timeframe hasn’t been set for it to be completed.
City engineer Rich Sullenger says higher-than-normal water levels have created more waves in the river that feeds into Thunder Bay, washing away soil and rocks. It’s delaying the planned installation of a dog park. Sullenger says park repairs could take until spring of 2018.
