SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - A pilot walked away with minor injuries after his small plane apparently had mechanical problems and crashed in a Spokane, Washington field.
Spokane Fire tweeted that firefighters responded to the crash Friday afternoon in the Hillyard neighborhood.
The Spokesman-Review reports (https://goo.gl/rdibnK ) the 31-year-old pilot suffered cuts on his face, arm and leg.
Spokane Police Officer Scott Hice told the newspaper he was getting into his car at around 1:30 p.m. when he heard what sounded like an aircraft with mechanical problems overhead.
Hice says he saw then saw the plane going down, ran toward it and radioed for help, and found the pilot walking toward him.
Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer identified the plane as an RV 8, a two-seat, single-engine, low-wing aircraft. The pilot was going to Deer Park, Washington.
The plane is registered to Jonathan Liard of Stafford, Virginia.
