SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Drought that is damaging crops, pastures and hay land in South Dakota has worsened over the past week.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map shows 72 percent of the state in some stage of drought, up from 58 percent last week. And 42 percent of the state is in severe or extreme drought, up from 34 percent.

The worst areas are in northwest and central South Dakota.
