ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The owner of Landmark Mall is planning to redevelop the enclosed mall in Alexandria into an open-air, mixed-use community.

The Howard Hughes Corporation announced in a statement Monday that it has purchased the mall’s Macy’s store. Macy’s announced plans last week to close that location.

The corporation plans a fresh line-up of retail and residences, dining, a luxury cinema, plazas and green spaces and an updated transit center. A timeline for redevelopment hasn’t been finalized, but the interior portion of Landmark Mall is set to close at the end of the month.
