Bus aims to help residents, visitors navigate downtown Flint

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A 27-passenger bus will soon offer free rides through the streets of downtown Flint.

The Downtown Flint Trolley is scheduled to start operating three days a week beginning Thursday, MLive (https://bit.ly/2i9R5ZQ ) reported. Stops on the route include Flint City Hall, Soggy Bottom Bar, Flint Farmers’ Market, Tenacity Brewing, Kettering University and University of Michigan Flint.

Diplomat Pharmacy Inc. helped fund the project. The company’s CEO and chairman, Phil Hagerman, said the bus fills the downtown area’s need for a public transit system in a unique way.

“I am so proud of downtown Flint and all it has to offer. We want to make it easier for residents and visitors to see it all,” said Hagerman, in a news release.

The Flint Downtown Development Authority will own and operate the bus. The authority’s executive director, Gerard Burnash, said the trolley would provide opportunities for residents and visitors to more easily access the downtown area’s growing nightlife and events.

Hours and routes will be adjusted based on rider needs.
