GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - The Campbell County Commission has expressed concerns to federal officials about problems with prairie dogs on the Thunder Basin National Grassland.
They voiced their concerns this week in a meeting with U.S. Forest Service district ranger Shane Walker.
The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/2i1FPCf ) that the prairie dog population on the grassland has exploded. Area ranchers say the prairie dogs interfere with their cattle grazing operations.
The Forest Service is proposing to form a coalition that would include representatives of the Campbell, Weston and Converse county governments to discuss issues related to the grassland.
Walker says the coalition is a way to address prairie dog concerns.
But Campbell County Commissioner Micky Shober says he thought it would be a waste of time.
