PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia’s district attorney and police union are clashing over the prosecutor’s refusal to charge a 16-year-old girl who allegedly slapped a female officer, who then tossed the teen to the ground.
Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby called DA Seth Williams a “morally and ethically challenged sideline playboy” in a letter criticizing the decision Wednesday.
The unidentified officer has been removed from street duty pending an internal investigation into a social media video showing her throwing down the teen and punching her while breaking up a street brawl involving more than 30 people Monday afternoon.
Police say the teen acknowledged slapping the officer.
Williams issued a statement saying he “will never apologize for relying on high investigative and prosecutorial standards before deciding to take away someone’s freedom.”
