PAMELIA, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a woman has died after a tractor-trailer hit her car, which was stopped on the shoulder of a northern New York highway.
Troopers say the accident occurred around 6 p.m. Monday on Interstate 81 southbound in the Jefferson County town of Pamelia (puh-MEEL’-yuh), 70 miles north of Syracuse. Police say 74-year-old Joann Zando of Deferiet died after being taken to a hospital.
Troopers say Zando’s Ford Escape was on the shoulder of the highway when a truck hauling lumber veered from the driving lane and rear-ended the car.
The truck was driven by 56-year-old Daniel Poulin of St-Joseph, Quebec. He was treated and released from the hospital.
Troopers say the investigation is continuing.
