LINDEN, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey high school was placed on lockdown for several hours after someone posted a photo on social media showing a rifle placed over a car’s steering wheel and threatened a shooting at the building.

Authorities said all students at Linden High School were safe. The lockdown ended around 1 p.m. Tuesday after police made a thorough search of the building and students were dismissed a short time later.

The lockdown started shortly after the threat was discovered on Instagram around 9 a.m. The initial posting contained the photo, but subsequent posts just had threatening messages about a shooting.

Some parents said their children had sent them texts during the lockdown stating students were scared.
