WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A trial is set to begin for a Delaware teenager charged in car crash that killed a high school classmate.
John Kirsch is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide for the death of 17-year-old Tyler Brown and with second-degree vehicular assault for critically injuring a 17-old girl who was a backseat passenger in his pickup truck.
Kirsch, whose trial was to begin Monday, also is charged with driving after consuming alcohol and with possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor.
Authorities say Kirsch was driving late on a Friday night last March when he pulled directly into the path of a tractor-trailer in Middletown.
Brown, a classmate of Kirsch at Salesianum School, was fatally injured.
Kirsch, who was seriously injured, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted.
