YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Suburban New York firefighters have been battling a blaze in a former carpet factory that now houses artists’ lofts and other businesses.
No injuries were reported in the fire, which occurred early Monday in Yonkers.
Mayor Mike Spano (SPAN’-oh) tells the Journal News (https://lohud.us/2kiI9GI ) he does not believe anyone lives in the building, which is used by the YOHO arts community.
At least two of the building’s five floors were fully engulfed in flames.
A gas station cashier across the street, Shahid Shah, says the flames and huge clouds of smoke looked like something he’d see on TV - “not in real life.”
