MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Bob Gilbert, a former Associated Press staffer whose assignments included the civil rights movement and the Capitol beat, has died. He was 80.

Roger Jennings, the funeral director at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service in Maryville, who handled the arrangements, confirmed Tuesday that Gilbert died Dec. 27 at NHC Murfreesboro in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Gilbert worked for The Associated Press in the 1960s. He also worked for the University of Tennessee and was a sports editor and columnist at The (Maryville) Daily Times. He also was a longtime producer of a sports radio show that he operated out of Blount County.
