DENVER (AP) - Denver International Airport is getting a $120 million renovation to consolidate the final screening of checked bags.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/2iByWG5 ) the Denver City Council approved a three-year contract for the work Tuesday with contractor Ludvik Electric Co., which is based in Lakewood.

The renovation will consolidate DIA’s final screening areas on an underground level where Transportation Security Administration employees open checked luggage that triggers an alarm or needs secondary scanning.

TSA requested the changes several years ago to help accommodate the federal agency’s security and efficiency needs.

The agency is contributing $50 million toward the project’s total cost, and the airport plans to use its capital improvements fund to cover the remainder.
