CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) - Authorities say Central Falls police officers rescued seven people from a fire that’s being investigated as arson.

Fire officials say Officer Yomaira Rodriguez was on patrol when she noticed smoke coming from a building on Earle Street around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. She notified the fire department and police, and then went into the home with two other officers who responded.

The officers found a husband and wife asleep in a smoke-filled apartment with their 3-year-old son, along with three women and a man upstairs. All made it out safely.

Firefighters responded soon after and extinguished the fire.

Authorities say surveillance video shows a man approach the building’s porch and start a fire. Fire officials are offering a $5,000 reward for information about the man.
