ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - State police say two people were killed in a collision on the Garden State Parkway in Monmouth County.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the center lane of the southbound express lanes near milemarker 120.9 in Aberdeen Township.

The two people killed - 25-year-old Kyia Fredericks, of Brick, and 29-year-old Rene Munoz, 29, of Toms River - were in a car that stopped in the roadway for an unknown reason. It was then struck by a sport utility vehicle that overturned as a result of the collision.

Fredericks and Munoz were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Yukon suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Sunday.
