TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say a 26-year-old man has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run in which a pedestrian was killed.

Police say Alexander Newton was arrested after he reported his car stolen and after a woman called police to report seeing a damaged car with a shattered windshield parked in her neighborhood.

According to police, investigators determined that Newton was driving the car Thursday evening when it struck 57-year-old Nelson Begay Six while crossing East Speedway Boulevard.

Police say Newton was arrested on suspicion of failing to remain at a collision causing a fatality.

Newton remains jailed and online court records don’t immediately show that he has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
