VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A man seen driving while his dog was dragged by his vehicle has been found guilty of animal cruelty.

The Columbian reports (https://bit.ly/2k3Pnfl) David Kadow was taken into custody after he was sentenced in the May death of his 10-year-old dog Hailey.

Witnesses testified they saw a yelping dog dangling by a leash from a truck.

They yelled and honked in unsuccessful attempts to stop the vehicle.

A witness testified to seeing the driver carry the dog into a home.

Police obtained a search warrant and found the dog’s body.

Kadow had pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license at the time.

Defense attorney Grant Cole said the dog’s death was a tragic accident.
