A conversation on “The View” prior to the 44th March for Life in Washington, D.C., included host Whoopi Goldberg telling the audience that all Americans are pro-life — even if they opt for an abortion.

Panelists on ABC’s “The View” used a Thursday segment to discuss abortion and the hundreds of thousands of people heading to the nation’s capital to protest the procedure. Things got tense between Ms. Goldberg and her Catholic co-host Sunny Hostin over the definition of “pro-life.”

“Maybe we should stop talking about being pro-life or anti-life because nobody is not for life,” Ms. Goldberg said, the media watchdog NewsBusters reported. “We are pro-choice.”

Ms. Hostin replied that the term “pro-life” should not be seen as “a dirty word.”

“You can’t define for me what pro-life is just like I can’t define for you what feminism is,” she said. “My faith tells me that life begins at conception. My faith tells me that abortion is wrong. My faith tells me that abortion is a sin. … I think we can all agree that abortion is not a good thing. It’s not something that anyone wants to do.”

“It’s not for you,” Ms. Goldberg countered. “It is something that some women have to do, and that’s the idea. They can make that decision for themselves.”

The March for Life is traditionally held Jan. 22 each year to mark 1973’s Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. This year the event was delayed due to President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
