PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities are investigating the actions of a high-ranking Department of Public Safety officer who was involved in a high-speed chase that ended with the death of the suspect.
The department is investigating Tuesday’s deadly crash near Camp Verde that killed 29-year-old Bradley Moore. Authorities say Deputy Director Heston Silbert was chasing Moore while off duty in his personal vehicle during the chase.
Public Information Officer Raul Garcia says Silbert witnessed what he believed was a carjacking and then followed the suspect to aid law enforcement officers.
Lt. Col. Ken Hunter declined to comment on the specifics but says the Special Investigations Unit will report on the incident within 60 days. The Critical Investigations Review Board will determine if any employee’s actions were unreasonable.
