PHOENIX (AP) - A solar advocacy group is calling for Arizona utility regulators to reconsider a decision that changed the way solar customers pay for their power.

The Arizona Corporation Commission in December voted to end net metering for new customers and to phase out the practice for existing solar customers.

The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/2jqaMAx ) that The Alliance for Solar Choice is filed a document with the commission accusing regulators of changing a rule without following appropriate procedures. The group is asking that net metering be reconsidered.

Net metering means utilities are required to purchase excess energy created by rooftop solar panels, offsetting customers’ costs of drawing energy from the grid at night or when their panels are not making enough energy to serve their needs. The practice is a key incentive for solar customers.
