SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a man who triggered an avalanche while skiing in northern Utah has been found safe.

The Deseret News reported (https://bit.ly/2k2y54b ) Wednesday that two friends had stayed at the top of Mount Aire in Lambs Canyon, while the man skied down the mountain and triggered the avalanche.

Unified police Det. Ken Hansen says the friends called 911 after failing to notice that the man was able to ski his way out of the snow and make it back to his car.



Search and rescue crews eventually located the skier about a half-hour later.

The snowslide was estimated to be 200 feet long.

Hansen says the men were experienced skiiers. He’s warning people to stay out of the backcountry when avalanche danger is high.
