SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Emergency crews in helicopters and boats are searching the San Francisco Bay waters for a missing man who capsized his kayak off the coast of Fremont.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/2kqPKDy) a man in a raft who was with the missing kayaker called officials from the water after seeing his friend’s kayak upside down, with his flotation vest stuck inside.
Menlo Park Fire Protection District Chief Harold Schapelhouman says the man told authorities his missing companion was somewhere in the cold bay water without a life vest.
He says an air-boat deployed by the department - that was later joined by seven other rescue vessels, including the Coast Guard - rescued the man on the raft in less than 30 minutes.
The remaining vessels, paired with helicopters, drones and heat-seeking technology, were spread out across the bay in an “all-out search” for the missing man.
