BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Construction is underway on building a $36 million apartment complex for students at Champlain College in Burlington.

College officials joined Mayor Miro Weinberger on Monday for the groundbreaking of the project, dubbed Eagles Landing.

The mixed-use building will have six floors and will sit on the former site of the old Eagles Club.

The complex will be able to house more than 300 students. It will feature retail spaces and more than 60 public parking spots.

The project is expected to be completed in summer 2018.

Weinberger says a typical resident in the city spends 44 percent of their income on rent. He says more housing will help alleviate the situation.
