PHOENIX (AP) - A northern Arizona man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after previously pleading guilty to second-degree murder in a drunken-driving head-on collision that killed two other members of the Navajo Nation.
A federal judge in Phoenix on Monday sentenced Derrick Haskan of Kayenta in the crash in Birdie Yazzie Nez and Harriet Nez were killed and Haskan and another person injured.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Haskan had a blood-alcohol content of over .20 and was driving faster than 85 mph when the crash occurred May 24, 2015.
