CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) - A public school official in Cumberland says city police have arrested a student who brought a gun into a classroom.
Allegany County Public Schools spokeswoman Mia Cross said Monday there is no indication the student planned to shoot anyone.
She says the Allegany High School principal alerted the school resource officer about the possibility of an armed student Monday afternoon.
Cross says city police officers located the student in a classroom and found a small-caliber firearm in the student’s belongings.
She says the school remains on lockdown until dismissal at the normal time. Cross says police officers are remaining on the scene as a precaution.
