GREENFIELD, N.H. (AP) - A woman who fell and injured herself while hiking on a New Hampshire mountain has been rescued.
The 64-year-old woman sustained a serious but non-life-threatening ankle injury while descending the Wapack Trail in Greenfield on Sunday after summiting Pack Monadnock Mountain.
New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers responded with Peterborough and Greenfield fire and rescue personnel.
Peterborough resident Susan Kaardinen says her snowshoe got caught under a rock, causing her to fall forward and injure her right ankle. Rescue personnel made contact with her on the trail almost a mile from the trail head on Sand Hill Road.
She was taken out to the trailhead by sled and was transported to a hospital.
Fish and Game reminds hikers to make sure they take extra time in winter conditions and remain cognizant of their footing.
