VERNON, Utah (AP) - The pilot of a small plane crash says he’s lucky to have walked away unscathed.

Jason Thompson, of Missouri, crashed a small aircraft in a remote part of Tooele County on Tuesday. The 42-year-old had been reseeding burned areas from fires for the Bureau of Land Management when his plane appeared to lose power.

Thompson says the crash occurred when he was just six feet from the peak of Red Pine Mountain. He says if he had been flying higher or lower at the time of the crash, he wouldn’t have walked away.

Because he was in such a remote location, Thompson had to call for another pilot in the area to report the wreck and ask for help before climbing down the mountain.
