LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We are a republic

OPINION:

Running from the discredited and self-incriminating name of “liberals” to big-government, oppressive “Progressives,” the Democrats’ rebranding should prompt Republicans to correct their own language. In speeches, comments and papers, instead of saying “In our democracy,” say instead, “In our republic…” After all, that’s what the nation is. Once upon a time every sixth-grader could distinguish between a democracy and a republic and correctly call the United States by its birth name. It’s time that Republicans do the same.
