MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities say a man who was arrested after a multi-county chase had killed a husband and wife hours before.

Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens says 46-year-old Jeff Sampson, of Mineral Wells, has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Brandy Hardman and 43-year-old Shawn Hardman. Both were fatally shot inside a Mineral Wells mobile home Tuesday morning where Sampson’s ex-wife lives. The community is about 10 miles south of Parkersburg.

News outlets report the ex-wife was at the scene, but she was not harmed. It is unclear what sparked the shooting.

Sampson was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a chase that ended in Braxton County. West Virginia State Police Lt. Michael Baylous said no troopers were injured while apprehending Sampson.
