BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A tax preparer in St. James Parish is facing felony charges.

Louisiana’s revenue department says in a news release that Warren Lavern Bryant of Lutcher was arrested Tuesday.

Bryant faces accusations that he fabricated business losses for companies that did not exist.

Investigators reviewed returns Bryant submitted in 2015. They said none of the clients whose returns they examined had claimed business losses when they provided Bryant with their tax records.

The revenue department says the scheme cost state taxpayers more than $116,000.

The release says Warren is charged with principal to filing or maintaining false public records and principal to illegal transmission of monetary funds.

Online records indicate Bryant was released Tuesday from the East Baton Rouge Parish jail. His bond was not listed and contact information was unavailable.
