NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The board that runs the convention center in New Orleans has announced a $32 million project to help train people in the culinary and hospitality industries.

The Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority says in a news release that it has entered a cooperative endeavor agreement with the New Orleans Culinary and Hospitality Institute. The authority has purchased a building in downtown New Orleans and entered a 40-year lease agreement with the institute.

Once renovations are completed, the building will host culinary teaching labs, baking and pastry labs, and wine-and-spirits labs. It will have a large event center including a banquet kitchen. It also will have traditional classroom space. Tulane University’s business school will have office and classroom space at the facility.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2018.
