WASHINGTON (AP) - A 65-year-old woman has been killed in Northwest Washington by an alleged drunken driver.

D.C. Police say Carolyn Ellis was using a crosswalk to walk across a street shortly before 11 p.m. Monday when a black 2016 Nissan Versa struck her. Ellis was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Friends of Ellis told WRC-TV (https://bit.ly/2kSFraH) that before she was killed, Ellis was leaving a celebration where she was honored for her community service.

Police say they searched the area and found the damaged vehicle. They arrested and charged 36-year-old David Jones with involuntary manslaughter, leaving after colliding and driving under the influence. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
