A couple caught up in the tragic events of the Boston Marathon bombing who married a year and a half later are now getting a divorce, even as their love story is set to take the silver screen in “Stronger,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jeff Bauman was critically injured and suffered the loss of his legs from the April 15, 2013 bombing. He had been waiting at the finish line for then-girlfriend Erin Hurley to cross the finish line when the bombers detonated a nearby explosive.

The two wed in November 2014 and have one child together.

“Jeff and Erin have decided that it is best to move forward as friends,” THR quoted an unnamed Bauman family spokesperson as saying. “Though their relationship has changed, their admiration, love and mutual respect for each other will never waver. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their daughter, Nora, and ask for privacy.”

Mr. Bauman’s eyewitness account helped investigators identify suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, THR said. Tsarnaev perished during a failed attempt on April 18, 2013 to evade authorities while younger brother Dzokhar Tsarnaev was captured a day later, and was subsequently tried, convicted and sentenced to death in a federal court.

For their part, producers for the Lionsgate movie inspired by Mr. Bauman’s story say the ending of the film will not be altered, THR said.

“Stronger,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Jeff Bauman and Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany as Erin Hurley, is still in post-production according to the Internet Movie Database, and no wide-release date has yet been announced.
