PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a suspect in handcuffs lunged at officers from the back seat of a patrol car, stabbing one in the leg and injuring the other in the forehead.

Police say both officers were taken to a hospital after Tuesday morning’s incident and are listed in stable condition.

The two officers had arrested a stolen vehicle suspect and put the 60-year-old man in back of the patrol car.

Police say the suspect pulled out a knife and lunged out toward the officers.

How the handcuffed suspect was able to pull out a knife and stab the officer remains under investigation.

Police say the man who attacked the two officers is facing aggravated assault charges and his name will be released after he’s booked into jail.
