PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police are offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects involved in the shootings of two elk in a northern Oregon wildlife area.
KATU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2jWCAtj ) that the first elk was found Sunday in the White River Wildlife area. The meat from the animal had been removed and the elk was carrying an unborn calf.
The other elk was found shot and wounded nearby.
Troopers say both animals were likely shot by the same person late Sunday or early Sunday.
Hunting elk out of season is illegal.
The wildlife area is currently a feeding station for wintering elk, which are already struggling due to high snow fall.
