WHITE OAK, Pa. (AP) - Authorities have identified a woman and a child who were killed in an apartment building fire in suburban Pittsburgh.

The Allegheny County fire marshal’s office says 83-year-old Anita Clark and 4-year-old Azire Clark-Roberts died in the blaze Tuesday afternoon in White Oak.

When police officers arrived, they tried to get inside but were driven back by high heat and smoke. Firefighters later found the two victims.

It was not immediately known what caused the fire.

Authorities say five apartments are believed to have sustained some sort of damage. The Red Cross is assisting residents.
