WHATELY, Mass. (AP) - Police in Massachusetts say two injured owls that were rescued by the same sergeant over the past four months have been released into the wild.

The Republican reports (https://bit.ly/2le9NS1 ) Whately police say that just after noon Saturday, the owls named Oscar and Oliver took flight after being cared for by a bird expert.

Sgt. Donald Bates rescued the two owls and brought them to a bird rehabilitation center in Conway to recover from their injuries.

The first owl was spotted by a passerby in October. Bates responded and called the Environmental State Police, which connected him to the rehabilitation center. The second owl is believed to have been hit by a car on Jan. 17. Bates had responded to a call from a resident who saw it on the street.
