TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Tuscaloosa County is going high-tech in its fight against illegal trash dumps.
The county says it’s installing surveillance cameras at four locations where people illegally dump trash and other debris.
The county’s waste management director, Jim Patrie, tells WBMA-TV (https://bit.ly/2l0cwCN ) the cameras will be placed out of view in protective lock boxes.
Tuscaloosa County Solid Waste Management lists construction debris as the worst problem at illegal dump sites, followed by appliances and household garbage.
Patrie says officials hope to get images of license plate numbers of illegal dumpers or even identify individuals by photos. Fines for illegal dumping can go as high as $500.
