BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two roadblocks that have been holding up the sale of a group of buildings set for redevelopment in Bennington are close to being resolved.
The Bennington Banner reports (https://bit.ly/2kZQkZp ) the option that Bennington Redevelopment Group holds to purchase six buildings and land at the town’s Four Corners intersection for $2 million has been extended while the issues are settled.
The first obstacle was an assessment of the downtown block that revealed significant environmental concerns. Bennington County Regional Commission officials now say those problems were “not significant enough to inhibit the sale.”
The second hurdle was a lawsuit regarding easement issues related to a stair tower and elevator connecting one building included in the sale and another that is not. A proposed settlement between the parties was agreed upon in mid-January.
