STOWE, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a car careened off a southeastern Pennsylvania bypass, hit a tree, and went down a steep embankment, killing two people and injuring a third.

Officials in Montgomery County say the car was heading east on the Route 422 bypass in West Pottsgrove Township at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday when it went through a median.

The car crashed into a tree and ended up down a steep embankment near the Schuylkill River.

Authorities said two people were killed and another person was flown to a trauma center. The names of the victims weren’t immediately released. The Montgomery County district attorney’s office is handing the investigation, a normal practice when a fatality is involved.
