SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A 17-year-old boy is suing a Spartanburg school district and a former teacher he accused of kissing him and inappropriately touching him in her classroom.

News outlets report that the lawsuit was filed Jan. 27 against Spartanburg School District 7 and ex-teacher Courtney Clark Kay.

Kay was given three years of probation after pleading guilty to first-degree assault and battery in September 2015. She had been initially charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16.

The lawsuit says the former Spartanburg High School student was 14 when Kay kissed him, touched him and sent him thousands of text messages as part of an ongoing relationship.

The lawsuit says the district was negligent and didn’t protect its student. It seeks punitive damages from a jury.
