A stage adaptation of George Orwell’s “1984” is headed to Broadway, Variety reported Thursday.
Adapted by playwrights Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, the play was a hit in London’s West End before going on an international tour in 2016, including a monthlong run at Washington, D.C.’s Lansburgh Theatre.
“1984” is set to open June 22 at the newly renovated Hudson Theatre and should be “the first to open of the 2017-18 Broadway season,” according to Variety.
The cast has not yet been announced and a press release at Hudson’s website promises that “additional information will be announced shortly,” while a bare-bones website for the play can be found online at RevisedTruth.com.
