PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a woman was found shot to death inside a Mississippi church.

Neshoba County Sheriff Tommy Waddell says 69-year-old Brenda Strickland Pinter was found inside Dixon Baptist Church in Neshoba County shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.

The sheriff said Pinter appears to have died from a gunshot wound. However, her official cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.

The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/2mtlGnH ) that Pinter had gone to the church to clean, and was discovered by her husband who was concerned when she hadn’t returned home. The newspaper reports that it’s unknown what time the shooting occurred.

Waddell said a gun was not found on scene and there was no sign of forced entry at the church.

He said officials do not have a suspect.
