BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A former Northfield man whose left hand was blown off when a homemade pipe bomb he was holding exploded outside his home has been sentenced to six months in federal prison.

Mark McCloud pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing explosive devices. Authorities say he was also sentenced this week to a year of supervised release and must repay $5,000.

Court records indicate McCloud lit an explosive device he was holding in December 2015. The device exploded, leaving McCloud and multiple bystanders hurt, including his pregnant wife and a child.

The pipe bomb consisted of copper tubing and explosive powder. Authorities found several feet of fusing materials in his home.

McCloud posted a video on YouTube days later apologizing. He said the explosives were old fireworks he found at his mother’s home.
