HAYWARD, S.D. (AP) - A wildfire is threatening homes and forcing some evacuations in western South Dakota.

The fire was burning Tuesday on public and private land just off Highway 40 near Hayward, in southwestern Pennington County.

The Rapid City Journal (https://bit.ly/2kX6XAl ) reports the fire is threatening 20 to 30 structures. Some people have been forced to leave their homes.

A spokesman for the Rapid City Fire Department says no one has been hurt and no structures damaged.

The fire is dubbed the Pretty Flower Fire, named for a road nearby. The fire appears to have started when a slash pile that was originally burned a few weeks ago re-ignited.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire had burned about 40 acres and was about 10 contained. Warm, dry, windy conditions helped the fire spread.
