MIAMI (AP) - Prosecutors in Florida say they will seek the death penalty only for the ringleader in the machete slaying of a vocational school student.
The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/fImhS1 ) reports that the state attorney announced Tuesday that four of the five classmates accused in the killing should face life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Jose Amaya Guardado.
Police say in June 2015 the Homestead Job Corps students lured Guardado into a wooded area near the school and he was hacked to death with a machete and buried in a shallow grave.
Authorities say Kaheem Arbelo led the attack and delivered the fatal blow. Authorities have not released a motive.
