TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Mexican man has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for making bomb threats in Tucson and the Phoenix metro area last year.

Federal prosecutors say 43-year-old Octavio Acosta De La Torre of Nogales, Sonora was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Tucson.

He previously pleaded guilty in the case.

Prosecutors say between last March 21 and April 1, De La Torre made 18 separate bomb threats to various businesses and government offices in Tucson and metropolitan Phoenix.

He allegedly called in threats to health centers, churches, schools, government buildings and military recruiting stations.

The hoaxes resulted in buildings being evacuated or classes being disrupted for several hours.

De La Torre later turned himself in to authorities at the Douglas Port of Entry.
