Leflore district says it has fixed building problems

ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) - The leader of the Leflore County school system says the district has fixed dangerous conditions reported by a grand jury.

Conservator Ilean Richards tells the Greenwood Commonwealth (https://bit.ly/2lWiK3s ) that the district has corrected many of the problems at Leflore County High School and Leflore County Elementary School. The district is under state control.

The grand jury reported in January on the condition of all county-owned buildings.

Among problems were missing faucets in girls’ bathrooms. Richards says they were being replaced when jurors visited. She says a high school cafeteria leak has been repaired and new furniture has been installed.

Richards says some fixes must wait until summer, such as stripping a gym floor and replacing auditorium carpet.

The district can’t afford some repairs, such as $200,000 to fix a driveway.
