MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Investigators say an unattended candle caused a weekend fire at a Madison condo building that killed one person and displaced 11 other residents.

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s office on Monday identified the victim as 58-year-old Sidney Nowland of Madison.

Preliminary autopsy results confirm that Nowland died of injuries suffered in the fire. Additional testing is being done.



The fire was reported at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters found Nowland in the condo unit where the fire was discovered. He later died at a hospital.

The building was evacuated. No one else was hurt.
