HIGHLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a driver when a deputy was struck and dragged by a stolen car.
The shooting happened Wednesday evening at the San Manuel Casino in Highland.
Officials say deputies received an alert about a possible stolen car shortly before 8 p.m. and found the unoccupied vehicle in the casino’s parking structure.
Deputies say they saw a man and woman get into the vehicle and the unidentified male driver put the car in reverse, dragging a deputy.
A deputy shot the man, who tried to drive away but crashed into two cars and a metal barrier. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The woman was injured in the crash.
